Week 15: Punch Your Tickets if You Can!

The Fantasy Football playoffs are upon us, most leagues started last week. I wanted to post my teams at the beginning of this year with how ridiculous I thought they were, but then they got better. I am in the semi-finals in four out of five leagues (thanks to three byes). So good luck to all in their respective playoff match-ups!!! A present for everyone at the bottom, but for now, onto the picks:

Week 12: The Last of the Byes

BYES: Bills, Bengals, Eagles & Seahawks

THURSDAY

saints Saints @ Falcons falcons – MONEY LINE: Saints — SPREAD: Saints (+7.0)

The Falcons are bad and their offensive line woes only make things even worse. The Saints got pretty lucky when Ahmad Brooks truck-sticked Drew Brees and was promptly flagged. The Saints are a top team in the NFC and are doing well on both both sides of the ball.

Week 9: Fine Nines!

Last week we shaped up and went 10-3 in Money Line picks and 6-7 Against the Spread. Let’s keep the ball rolling. We missed the Thursday Night game so we will ignore that game to be fair. Here we go:

Watch the Dez Bryant tirade for yourself:

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/dez-bryant-sideline-rant-line-watch-yourself-video-025747613–nfl.html

BYE WEEK: Broncos, Giants, Lions, Cardinals, 49ers, and Jaguars

SUNDAY

chiefs Chiefs @ BIlls  png-9 – MONEY LINE: Chiefs — SPREAD: Chiefs (-3.5)

The Chiefs still remain undefeated and get to face Jeff Tuel on the road. I would’ve seen this as a trap game if Thad Lewis was playing, but now the sledding will get a lot easier. C.J. Spiller needs to get healthy for the Bills to compete and so does E.J. Manuel.

png-12 Vikings @ Cowboys png-1 –MONEY LINE: Cowboys — SPREAD: Cowboys (-9.5)

The Vikings continue their awful ways and will keep Christian Ponder under center. They need to stop abandoning the run when they get down by two scores because it takes the ball out of the hands of their best player. The Cowboys lost another game in typical 2000s Cowboys fashion as Matthew Stafford won with one of the most headsup football plays I’ve ever seen. Dez Bryant exploded on the sidelines and got more bad press because of it. LEAVE DEZ ALONE!

png-20 Titans @ Rams  rams– MONEY LINE: Titans — SPREAD: Titans (-3.5)

Jake Locker and the Titans come off their bye to face the Kellen Clemens led Rams. The Rams put up a fight against the Seahawks on Monday Night with the performance of their defense mostly. The Titans lost their owner Bud Adams during their bye week and I expect the emotional victory here.

saintsSaints @ Jets images – MONEY LINE: Saints — SPREAD: Jets (+6.5)

The Saints are coming off a shellacking of the Bills at home and they will go outdoors in windy MetLife Stadium. Jimmy Graham still isn’t at 100 percent. The Jets are coming off a beating in Cincinnati and I expect a bounce back as the Jets seem to do this year.  Even though Rob Ryan will be dialing up blitzes to get Geno Smith off his game, but according to his inconsistency this year, Geno will have a good game.

chargers Chargers @ Redskins png-19 – MONEY LINE: Redskins — SPREAD: Redskins (-1.0)

The Redskins took a beating in Denver after being up 21-7 and then the Broncos offense started clicking. The Chargers are coming off their bye and travel east to play at 1 PM. I never like West Coast teams in this game even though the Redskins’ defense is horrible and Philip Rivers is playing much better this year and Keenan Allen has emerged as his go to receiver.

falcons Falcons @ Panthers png-3 – MONEY LINE: Panthers — SPREAD: Falcons (+7.5)

The Falcons are bad and were embarrassed by the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona last week. They are struggling with injuries especially those to their wide receivers. The Panthers have had a long week to rest up after bombing the Buccaneers on Thursday Night last week. The Panthers look like a complete team and get more dangerous as Jonathan Stewart comes back from injury.

png-18 Eagles @ Raiders  png-16MONEY LINE: Raiders — SPREAD: Raiders (E)

The Eagles looked bad once again against the Giants as Matt Barkley was rushed into the fire once again when Michael Vick pulled up limp with his hamstring injury again. Terrelle Pryot set an NFL record with his first quarter run last week against the Steelers’ defense that was easily fooled. This might be an ugly one as Nick Foles gets the start.

png-6 Buccaneers @ Seahawks png-2 – MONEY LINE: Seahawks — SPREAD: Buccaneers (+16.5)

The Bucs were embarrassed on Thursday Night by the Panthers as Mike Glennon looked lost against the Panthers, imagine how the Seahawks will make him look. The Seahawks escaped a scare on Monday Night against the Rams, but they did suffer a pretty big loss, Sidney Rice tore his ACL on Monday Night and there goes the teams real deep threat. They will rely heavily on Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin now as they await Percy Harvin’s return.

png-4 Ravens @ Browns png-23 – MONEY LINE: Ravens — SPREAD: Ravens (-3.0)

The Ravens are coming off their bye and John Harbaugh is a master after the bye, his Ravens have gone 5-0 since he took over. This team has lost two straight and now finds themselves 2 games back in the division but can make up ground with a win in Cleveland. Jason Campbell gave the Chiefs a scare last week and he needs to continue to feed his two best players in Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron.

png-21 Steelers @ Patriots png-8 – MONEY LINE: Patriots — SPREAD: Steelers (+7.0)

The Steelers were humbled in Oakland last week after winning two games in a row and it appeared they were turning things around, but Terrelle Pryor’s legs had different ideas. The Patriots were getting run over by the Dolphins in the first half last week, but Joe Philbin thought it was a good idea to change the game plan leading to a comeback by the Pats. The Pats at home against a bad Steelers team, but without Aqib Talib and with Le’Veon Bell turning into a legit starting running back give me the points.

png-17 Colts @ Texans texans – MONEY LINE: Colts — SPREAD: Colts (-2.0)

The Colts suffered one of the biggest losses this year when they lost Reggie Wayne for the year. Keep Calm and Move On, Indy. The Colts are coming off their bye and so are the Texans. Case Keenum will be under center again for the Texans and that is why I am picking the Colts.

MONDAY

png-15 Bears @ Packers packers – MONEY LINE: Packers — SPREAD: Packers (-7.5)

The Bears come off their bye after losing Jay Cutler to a serious groin injury. Josh McCown will get the start against the Packers defense that seems to be hitting a stride even without their best player in Clay Matthews. The offense hasn’t missed a step without Randall Cobb and James Jones or even Jermichael Finley. This game might be close at first because of the old rivalry but I expect a blowout in the end.

Week 8: Calling all Favres … Calling all Favres

So the news broke earlier today that the St. Louis Rams, who recently just lost their starting quarterback to a torn ACL, reached out to retirement flirt Brett Favre. Please for the love of God don’t start this up again! I know he has said he is staying retired to all news outlets, but I also know they will still run with it. As many of you might have seen the injury bug bit the NFL pretty hard last week, as starting quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers all went down projecting to miss significant time or the rest of the season. These teams have to continue to push on just as we do with another so-so showing. 8-7 Money Line last week and Against the Spread we were 6-9 (better than the past few weeks!) Let’s jump into Week 8 and see where these injuries will take us:

alg-jenn-sterger-102910-jpg Brett-Favre-could-still-play-in-NFL-agent-says

BYE WEEK: Colts, Bears, Titans, Chargers, Ravens & Texans

THURSDAY

png-3 Panthers @ Buccaneers  png-6 – MONEY LINE: Panthers — SPREAD: Panthers (-6.0)

Thursday Night games have been pretty awful this year. The Panthers seem to be hitting an eye-brow raising stride, and it’s mostly because of their defense. The front seven is ferocious even after giving up Jon Beason and after all the injuries to the defensive backs. Cam Newton is connecting on 68% of his passes over their past three games. The Bucs let go of Freeman and Glennon has been serviceable but they are misusing their best defensive weapon in Revis by not allowing him to shadow opponents’ #1 receivers. I don’t like taking the Panthers against the spread, but I’m doing it.

SUNDAY

png Giants @ Eagles png-18 – MONEY LINE: Eagles — SPREAD: Eagles (-6.0)

The Giants got their first win of the season Monday Night, in the ugliest Monday Night game I have ever seen. Peyton Hillis averaged 2 yards per carry and Eli Manning only had 200 yards. The good news is the Giants didn’t lose the turnover battle. The Eagles put Foles behind the wheel and as I expected he did poorly and then he was concussed. The “high-powered” offense only mustered 3 points against the banged up Cowboys’ defense. Michael Vick returns under center unfortunately for the G-Men, but he may still be hobbled limiting his running plays. We will see.

png-1 Cowboys @ Lions png-13 – MONEY LINE: Lions — SPREAD: Cowboys (+3.5)

The Cowboys won an ugly on in Philly on Sunday. The defense looked much better against the Nick Foles-led Eagles. The Cowboys offensive line will be tested against the Lions defensive line. The most intriguing match-up is two guys who won’t be on the field at the same time at any point, Dez Bryant vs. Calvin Johnson. The Lions lost a heart-breaker at home to the Bengals last weekend even with Calvin Johnson’s monster line.

png-23 Browns @ Chiefs chiefs – MONEY LINE: Chiefs — SPREAD: Chiefs (-7.0)

The Browns are bad, even worse they benched Brandon Weeden for Jason Campbell. Joe Haden will shadow Dwayne Bowe, not that that matters since Bowe has been downright awful all year. Maybe the Browns are trying to save Brandon Weeden because Campbell will be under duress all day from the Chiefs. Alex Smith keeps his label as the “Game Manager of the Year”. The defense is what is winning the Chiefs these games, along with Jamaal Charles. Good Luck Mr. Campbell.

png-22 Dolphins @ Patriots png-8 – MONEY LINE: Patriots — SPREAD: Patriots (-6.5)

The Dolphins have dropped three straight and now head into Foxborough to face the ticked off Patriots. Gronkowski is healthy and Amendola should play, this offense is only going to get better now. Aqib Talib will be coming back and will mostly likely face off on Mike Wallace. Ryan Tannehill won’t stop turning the ball over after many thought this season would be one of progression, but his offensive line isn’t helping his cause.

png-9 Bills @ Saints saints – MONEY LINE: Saints — SPREAD: Saints (-12.5)

The Bills are coming off an upset of the Dolphins in Miami, but head into the Thunderdome. Thad Lewis is doing just fine under center filling in for E.J. Manuel. The Bills need Fred Jackson and C.J Spiller to get healthy, but Spiller might sit this week, which could help him get healthy quicker. The Saints are coming off their bye and might be without Jimmy Graham. Drew Brees will miss him, but it will be noticed. Drew Brees will handle his business and Rob Ryan will make life for the Bills hell.

49ers 49ers @ Jaguars download – MONEY LINE: 49ers — SPREAD: 49ers (+16.5)

The 49ers seem to be clicking on all cylinders. The Jaguars don’t seem to have any cylinders. I gave them a chance last week with all the possibilities of a trap game for the Chargers, but they are just too bad to capitalize on things like that. Now they head to London to face the 49ers who probably won’t take their foot off the throttle. However, I’m going to swallow the 16.5 points even though the London games usually don’t get ugly, I can’t trust the Jaguars.

imagesJets @ Bengals png-14  – MONEY LINE: Bengals — SPREAD: Jets (+6.5)

The Jets pulled off a miracle win at home against the Patriots. Geno Smith is due for his bad game as he seems to have one every other game. The Bengals got another road win against the high-powered Lions. Both defenses are going to make life hell for the opposing quarterbacks. I expect the Bengals to be in the backfield all day against the Jets, and I might be crazy picking the Bengals with the points.

png-21 Steelers @ Raiders png-16 – MONEY LINE: Steelers — SPREAD: (-2.5)

The Steelers have won two in a row as they have found a running game and their defense is getting healthy and is starting to click. The Raiders are coming off their bye and are going to have to protect their quarterback better than they did against the Chiefs when Pryor was sacked 10 times.  I expect Mike Tomlin to continue righting this ship that is the Pittsburgh Steelers, although it seems that Terrelle Pryor is becoming an NFL quarterback.

png-19Redskins @ Broncos broncos – MONEY LINE: Broncos — SPREAD: Redskins (+13.0)

The ‘Skins are coming off an exciting victory in Soldier Field against the Bears. The defense is still too leaky, but RGIII is rounding into form with his legs and his arm, and they seem to have a two-headed monster in Alfred Morris and Roy Helu. Jordan Reed will be an asset to this team going forward. Peyton lost his homecoming in Indy as he was outdone by Andrew Luck. Expect a lot of points in this one.

falconsFalcons @ Cardinals png-10 –  MONEY LINE: Falcons — SPREAD: Falcons (+2.5)

Matt Ryan found confidence in Harry Douglas and Harry Douglas played with a ton of it. If Roddy White can’t go it appears Steven Jackson is finally set to return and they need him. The Cardinals stunk it up against the best defense in the league on Thursday Night Football. The Cardinals stayed at home and the Falcons got a big divisional win as they look to stay alive.

packersPackers @ Vikings png-12 – MONEY LINE: Packers — SPREAD: Packers (-9.5)

The Packers found silver in Jarrett Boykin. Jermichael Finley suffered a scary injury and our prayers are with him for a speedy recovery. It doesn’t matter who Rodgers is throwing the ball to, he’ll get it done. Eddie Lacy is turning into the best Packers’ running back since Ahman Green. The Vikings are in trouble and AP is banged up. Josh Freeman was diagnosed with a concussion which means they are forced to turn back to Christian Ponder. Good Lucky keeping up with the Packers.

MONDAY

Seahawks @ Rams – MONEY LINE: Seahawks — SPREAD: Seahawks (+10.5)

The Seahawks embarrassed the Cardinals on Thursday night and will have eleven days off to face a Rams team that is forced to play Kellen Clemens. This will be an ugly one and I don’t expect anything less than a blowout. The Seahawks don’t usually play well on the road, but it doesn’t matter when your opponent is this bad.

Week 7: Unlucky Sevens?

The Broncos didn’t blow out the Jaguars and didn’t beat the spread. John Fox probably had money on that game, I mean honestly Peyton throws a pick-6 to the Jaguars? Don’t even get me started on the New York Football (but not really) Giants. Another above .500 week for the Money Line picks at 9-6, but this was my worst week for picks Against the Spread going 2-13. I don’t want to talk about it, but hey it happens.

robryan.gif.pagespeed.ce.UBOjv03tuN

THURSDAY

png-2Seahawks @ Cardinalspng-10– MONEY LINE: Seahawks — SPREAD: Cardinals (+4.5)

The Seahawks didn’t look that great against the Titans and that was at home, that’s the second week in a row the Seahawks haven’t looked like the top dog, but this could be a bounce back week. I never really like them on the road to beat the spread. Percy Harvin may be only a couple of weeks away from contributing to this team, which would make them even more dangerous. The Cardinals turned the ball over too much to compete against the Niners and Carson Palmer has not excelled as many expected in Bruce Arians’ offense.

SUNDAY

png-8Patriots @ Jetsimages – MONEY LINE: Patriots — SPREAD: Jets (+4.0)

The Patriots pulled off a stunner with five seconds left in regulation at home against the Saints. Rob Ryan was disgusted when his defense gave up the last second touchdown to Brady & Co. Aqib Talib, Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola (SHOCKER!) won’t be playing Sunday most likely. The biggest hit is Talib, and as you may remember he intercepted Geno Smith twice when they played in Week Two. The Jets stayed at home after losing an ugly one to the Steelers. Smith seems to play better every other game and he won’t have to face Talib, Wilfork and Mayo now. I like the Jets with the points at home.

chargers Chargers @ Jaguars download – MONEY LINE: Chargers — SPREAD: Jaguars (+7.5)

The Chargers stopped Andrew Luck from scoring a touchdown on Monday Night and the defense looked great, or was it the Colts’ play calling? No matter Philip Rivers looks like he’s refined himself and although he might not be the quarterback he used to be he has definitely matured into a leader and he has a new play-toy in Keenan Allen. The Jags are awful, but played up to the Broncos on Sunday in Denver. They will win a game at some point, but I don’t know when, but be warned. Call me crazy but the Chargers played on Monday Night and it’s a West Coast team coming to the East Coast, I smell a loss.

texansTexans @ Chiefs  chiefs – MONEY LINE: Chiefs — SPREAD: Chiefs (-4.5)

The Texans have now lost Matt Schaub to a gruesome ankle injury, and the Houston fans cheered. Seriously??? The Texans were embarrassed by the Rams 38-13 and another pick-6 was thrown by a Texans’ quarterback. Arian Foster looks rejuvenated, but he will have a tough test against the Chiefs’ defense allowing only 10.8 points per game. Alex Smith is showing why he has the label of a game manager, but Jamaal Charles looks like a typical Andy Reid running back and that defense is fierce coming off a ten sack game against the Raiders. Chiefs at home against the lowly T.J. Yates.

png-14  Bengals @ Lions  png-13 – MONEY LINE: Lions — SPREAD: Lions (-2.5)

The Bengals were up on the Bills and turned off the heat leading to a Bills comeback, but took it in overtime. The Bengals have been great on the road the past few years, but teams always seem to have trouble in Buffalo. The Lions exploded as Brandon Weeden handed away the game. The offense is getting better as Calvin Johnson is getting healthy and Stafford found himself a tight end in Joseph Fauria (WHO????!!!). I want to like the Bengals because of their away success, but it’s hard with Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush healthy.

png-9Bills @ Dolphins png-22 – MONEY LINE: Dolphins — SPREAD: Bills (+10.5)

The Bills almost pulled off a stunner at home against a good Bengals team. Now they head to warmer weather to play the Dolphins coming off their bye. The Dolphins are getting Cameron Wake back, but might not have Dannell Ellerbe. Ten points is a lot to give a 3-2 team in a division game. I know the Dolphins will win and I would play their defense in fantasy leagues. Dolphins here but I don’t know about that spread.

png-15  Bears @ Redskins png-19 – MONEY LINE: Bears— SPREAD: Bears (E)

The Bears took advantage of more Giants’ turnovers on Thursday night and have had eleven days off to prepare for the ‘Skins. The bears defense is opportunistic and the offense is clicking. The Redskins defense is miserable, but played up to the Cowboys’ offense on Sunday Night on the big stage, but I expect Cutler and Brandon Marshall to have a field day. RGIII had more runs that made him look like himself as he is starting to heal even more, but the play calling and the clock management is simply horrendous. Bears here, but I smell an upset.

png-1  Cowboys @ Eagles  png-18 – MONEY LINE: Cowboys— SPREAD: Cowboys (E)

I don’t know why I picked them. Probably because of the talent on offense and how Nick Foles fell back to earth last year after a couple of good games, but this one’s a toss-up between the top two teams in the NFC East. Dez Bryant will feast on this bad Eagles’ secondary this weekend.

rams Rams @ Panthers   png-3 – MONEY LINE: Panthers — SPREAD: Rams (+6.0)

The Rams took it to the Texans as Sam Bradford only had to throw for 116 yards last week, but tossed three touchdowns. The Rams were the beneficiaries of bad Matt Schaub play. The Panthers took it to the Vikings as Matt Cassel kept turning the ball over. The Panthers are bipolar so don’t be surprised if they lose this one easily.

png-6  Bucs @ Falcons  falcons – MONEY LINE: Falcons — SPREAD: Bucs (+7.0)

The Bucs have yet to win a game. Are they due? Maybe. Mike Glennon has begun his tenure as the Bucs starting quarterback and he looked decent against the Eagles and things won’t get harder against the Falcons bad defense. Matt Ryan comes out of his bye and will not have Julio Jones, Roddy White and Steven Jackson. His offensive line is banged up and he can’t rely on his defense to keep opponents from scoring, so he is going to lean heavily on Tony Gonzalez, who came back for one last run at a title. So much for that!

49ers  49ers @ Titans png-20 – MONEY LINE: 49ers — SPREAD: 49ers (-4.5)

The 49ers housed the Cardinals last week at Arrowhead as Colin Kaepernick realized who his best receiver is, his tight end, Vernon Davis. They connected for 180 yards and two touchdowns as Vernon Davis showed us why everyone is always so high on him. The defense will enjoy this game against Ryan Fitzpatrick. When will the Kenny Britt saga end? Nobody knows, but what could they get in return for a guy who will be a free agent next year anyway?

png-23 Browns @ Packers packers – MONEY LINE: Packers — SPREAD: Packers (-10.5)

The Browns look a lot different and more turnover-prone with Weeden under center. They will probably be playing from behind most of the time so Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron will keep producing numbers. The Packers lost Randall Cobb (out for 6-8 weeks) and James Jones both to injury, even though Jones might play this week. The Packers are going to rely more on Eddie Lacy now with those injuries, but he looks more than capable. Also one of the more underrated plays I have ever seen was Eddie Lacy going down before the end zone against the Ravens to waste the clock last week.

png-4 Ravens @ Steelers png-21– MONEY LINE: Ravens — SPREAD: Ravens (+1.5)

The Ravens looked ugly against the Packers last week, but are the better team here and are getting points. They need to get the ball in Ray Rices hands 20-25 times a game and we all know that. Their defensive front will be feasting on Big Ben all day. The Steelers got their first win against the bipolar Jets in MetLife Stadium. Big Ben needs to be kept upright and Leveon Bell needs to keep pushing the pile. This is the best rivalry in football right now even with the Steelers being 1-4.

broncos  Broncos @ Colts png-17 – MONEY LINE: Broncos — SPREAD: Colts (+7.0)

Bad win for the Broncos as they failed to embarrass the Jaguars at home. But Peyton Manning is coming back to Indy this week and Jim Irsay’s quotes have just made this more memorable. Andrew Luck is coming off one of his worst performances of his young career. Trent Richardson is not living up to that first round pick price they paid. This will be a great game to watch but a more memorable one for Peyton coming back “home”. Also Von Miller comes back, and his workouts were ridiculous while he waited for his suspension to end.

MONDAY

png-12 Vikings @ Giants png – MONEY LINE: Vikings — SPREAD: Vikings (+4.0)

Josh Freeman is starting after a week to get the playbook. Adrian Peterson will probably be running a muck in MetLife. The Giants are in shambles even coming off one of their best games of the year, a loss to the Bears. Brandon Jacobs looked like Jacobs circa 2007, but he hurt his hammy and they signed Peyton Hillis. Desperation moves. Reuben Randle and Eli Manning need to get on the same page otherwise the interceptions will keep mounting.

Week 6: Props to Those Still in Survivor Pools

So as the headline says, if you are still in your survivor pool, good for you! I was in two, find myself in a loser’s bracket in my big money one, but lost this past week thanks to the Atlanta Falcons (sucksters). At least I still have fantasy football, five leagues, I just finished off my second 5-0 week in a row as I am paying equal attention now to all teams, so WATCH OUT! Last week saw an improvement at 9-7 Money Line and  8-8 Against the Spread (.500 for the first time all year!) Let’s take a look at our Week 6 Matchups!

Bye Weeks: FALCONS, MIAMI THURSDAY

pngGiants @ Bears png-15– MONEY LINE: Bears — SPREAD: Giants (+8.0)

This is the worst season I have watched as a Big Blue fan, and now they will be without David Wilson. Everything that can go wrong has and the sledding won’t get easier against a Bears team that has dropped two straight games and get to play at home. The Bears looked bad against a surging Saints’ defense. Jay Cutler has to get the ball to Brandon Marshall more, but now Alshon Jeffery has solidified himself as an asset after his ridiculous Week 5 performance, which he was probably on Fantasy Football benches for. Again we use opening lines for each week:

SUNDAY

png-16Raiders @ Chiefschiefs – MONEY LINE: Chiefs — SPREAD: Raiders (+10.5)

Terrelle Pryor is coming into his own and looked good against the Chargers at home last week. The defense isn’t all that good, but Pryor can keep the team in games with his legs and apparently now his arm. The Chiefs survived a scare in Nashville last week against the Titans. The Chiefs still look like a complete team and their defense has become smothering under Andy Reid. Jamaal Charles will most likely have a field day against the Raiders.

png-18 Eagles @ Bucs png-6– MONEY LINE: Bucs — SPREAD: Bucs (+1.5)

The Eagles beat up on the bad Giants as Nick Foles had to come in and finish off the G-Men. Vick is banged up, yet he wasn’t even hit. The Bucs are coming off their bye and have now rid themselves of Josh Freeman and Mike Glennon will take control under center. I think this is the week they get their first win as Nick Foles will lead a fast-paced spread offense that he isn’t built for. The Bucs defense is still better than many and will most likely shot down an offense that without Vick lacks its second-best weapon.

packers Packers @ Ravenspng-4– MONEY LINE: Packers — SPREAD: Packers (-3.0)

The Packers won an ugly one in Green Bay last weekend against the Lions, but their defense showed up against the Megatron-less Lions. They shut down Reggie Bush and the Lions only scored a touchdown, but not without a price. Clay Matthews is out for at least a month with a fractured thumb. Rodgers will have to produce more with the defense now lacking its best pass-rusher. The Ravens are suffering because of Ray Rice’s inability to break tackles this year and put up Ray Rice numbers. If this continues, Joe Flacco will have to carry the load and a defense that is beginning to click will have to step up even more.

png-13 Lions @ Brownspng-23 – MONEY LINE: Lions — SPREAD: Lions (-2.5)

If Megatron plays this will stay, if he doesn’t I will come back and change this pick you have my word. The Lions looked horrible without the best WR in the league right now, that can’t continue they need to make something of their other players. The defense held up pretty well against Rodgers until the end of the game, but the sledding is easier against the Brandon Weeden led Browns. Hoyer is down and Weeden takes back over. They were 0-2 with Weeden under center, but he won in emergency work last week against the more banged-up Bills. Browns’ players have said they have instilled their confidence in Weeden and we will see how it plays out. Haden vs. Megatron would be fun to watch!

png-3 Panthers @ Vikingspng-12 – MONEY LINE: Vikings — SPREAD: Vikings (-2.5)

The Panthers looked awful and Cam looked scared last week against the Cardinals front seven. How is this team supposed to be taken seriously after performances like that??? The Vikings are coming off their big win in London and their bye week. Matt Cassel will be under center, but now Josh Freeman is in the picture. All I can think is Adrian Peterson and the wide receivers are thinking pick one and stick with him … as long as his name isn’t Christian Ponder.

ramsRams @ Texanstexans – MONEY LINE: Texans — SPREAD: Texans (-7.0)

The Rams beat the future 0-16 Jaguars … Congrats, guys! Now you play a real team that just took a beating at the hands of the 49ers. Last year the Texans took a beating from the Packers 42-24 (not as close as the score says), then they turned around and demolished the Super Bowl Champion Ravens 43-13 at home. The Rams offense is ugly and a mess right now even after scoring 34 on the lowly Jags. The Texans’ fans might be calling for Matt Scahub’s head but they have no better option right now, so suck it up!

png-21Steelers @ Jets images– MONEY LINE: Jets — SPREAD: Jets (+2.5)

This line has swapped as the Jets are now 2-point favorites. Geno Smith was calm under the 0 pressure he faced from the Falcons on Monday and he knocked tons of people out of Survivor Pools everywhere (hate you, Geno). The Jets defense is as solid as ever even without Revis, it’s mainly their front seven that’s supplanting their 3-2 record. The Steelers are as bad as the Giants, but they are hoping a steady run game will help them, but they still have no offensive line and they need to find a defensive groove, good luck with all that.

png-14 Bengals @ Bills  png-9– MONEY LINE: Bengals — SPREAD: Bengals (-7.5)

The Bengals played an ugly game with the Patriots in Cincy last weekend 13-6 with some good defense. The Bengals will get to feast on Thaddeus Lewis for the Bills as E.J. Manuel is going to miss over a month. They will also get Leon Hall back, sorry Thad. The Bills need to establish a run game with their two-headed beast in Spiller and Jackson. Thaddeus Lewis is most likely going to have to check down a lot to the running backs. The Bills always play up at home and I wouldn’t be shocked if they were in this game the whole way.

png-20Titans @ Seahawks png-2– MONEY LINE: Seahawks — SPREAD: Seahawks (-13.5)

The Titans fought with the Chiefs, but came up short at home. Now they travel to the Seattle to face a Seahawks team that lost a heart-breaker to the Colts in Indy last week. The defense will be angry after giving up 24 (one touchdown was scored on a blocked punt) to the Colts. The Titans defense is a quietly good unit, but Ryan Fitzpatrick will not be able to outmatch the Seahawks defense. Russell Wilson needs to gain some consistency this year for his team to take the next step, especially on the road.

download Jaguars @ Broncosbroncos – MONEY LINE: Jags (Not even a little funny?) — SPREAD: Broncos (-28.0)

The biggest spread in the history of the game. I will still take the Broncos who survived a scare against the Cowboys on Sunday. The Jags are turning back to Chad Henne because Gabbert is hurt … again. Peyton will keep the machine rolling against the Jags and hopefully “no Jags will be harmed in the making of this.” Avert your eyes Jaguar fans … all 10 of you.

png-10 Arizona @ 49ers 49ers – MONEY LINE: 49ers — SPREAD: Cardinals (+10.5)

The Cardinals defense was everywhere on Sunday and made Cam Newton pay. The defense will be just as ferocious against the 49ers. Colin Kaepernick continues to struggle this year as defenses are getting more and more after him. He still hit Vernon Davis on a touchdown pass, made mostly by Davis ridiculous 4.38 speed. The 49ers defense will be the reason they win this game, but the Cardinals’ defense is underrated as Cam Newton saw.

saintsSaints @ Patriotspng-8 – MONEY LINE: Saints — SPREAD: Saints (+2.0)

This will be a good one. Two teams with good defenses, when no one though they would have solid defensive units. The Saints are coming off a big win in Chicago, where Drew Brees was winless prior to Sunday. Brady & Co. are coming off an ugly loss to the Bengals where his touchdown streak was halted. One would expect the Patriots to bounce back and pounce the next opponent, but they face a really good Saints team. Gronk should be back and Danny Amendola actually didn’t get hurt last week. This is a toss-up.

png-19Redskins @ Cowboyspng-1 – MONEY LINE: Cowboys — SPREAD: Redskins (+4.5) The ‘Skins are coming off their bye. Their defense is really bad, but RGIII (not his legs) are keeping them in games or almost pulling off comebacks. Let’s see how healthy RGIII’s knee is after the off week. The Cowboys were in a shootout with the Broncos and lost on a crucial Tony Romo interception … SHOCKER! The pick wasn’t that bad and Danny Trevathan made an unbelievable play. Romo will look to turn it around against an easy feast in the Redskins’ defense.

MONDAY

png-17 Colts @ Chargers chargers – MONEY LINE: Colts — SPREAD: Colts (E)

Andrew Luck leads another furious comeback and takes down a Goliath. This kid is turning into an elite quarterback in front of our eyes. If they can get Trent Richardson going, watch out. The Chargers looked bad against the Raiders on Monday and this team is a story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It all depends on how Philip Rivers performs, but expect Andrew Luck to put up a ton of points in this one. Todays_Special UPSET SPECIAL

Week 5: Bring on the Byes

7-8 Money line for the week and against the spread we went 5-9-1… Another bad week unfortunately, but let’s delve into Week 5 as more byes have come into play with the Redskins, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay all having their off week.

THURSDAY

Bills @ Browns – MONEY LINE: Browns — SPREAD: Browns (-3.5)

Bills pulled off a shocker at home against the Ravens as their defense picked Flacco five times, The rookie quarterback-led Bills head to Cleveland where the Browns have rattled off two straight W’s with Hoyer under center now. The Browns defense will prove too much for EJ Manuel to handle.

SUNDAY

Chiefs @ Titans – MONEY LINE: Chiefs — SPREAD: Chiefs (-3.0)

The Chiefs kept Big Blue’s embarrassing season rolling as they routed them in Arrowhead. Now they head to Nashville to face a Titans coming off their own rout of a New York Team, Gang Green. The Titans lost Jake Locker for at least four weeks to a rib injury and now have to rely on Mr. Harvard, Ryan Fitzpatrick. I can’t believe this spread is only three.

Ravens @ Dolphins – MONEY LINE: Ravens — SPREAD: Ravens (+3.0)

Joe Flacco threw five interceptions and this team still almost won. Ryan Tannehill was embarrassed and constantly under duress during his Monday Night bout with the Saints’ defense. The Ravens will be ready to feast on a turnover-happy Tannehill and the Dolphins’ defense will be looking to avenge their performance against the Saints.

Jaguars @ Rams – MONEY LINE: Rams — SPREAD: Rams (+13.0)

The Jags are bad and playing for the first pick, easily demonstrated by them sticking by Blaine Gabbert. They have been monster underdogs in the two games preceding this one and are again big underdogs. I want to take the Rams, but with the way they’ve performed since pulling off a comeback win against the Cardinals, it makes it tough. Sam Bradford doesn’t have a better opportunity to put his offensive weapons on display than this game.

Patriots @ Bengals – MONEY LINE: Patriots — SPREAD: Patriots (+2.0)

Tom Terrific did this thing again on Sunday Night against the beat up Falcons’ defense. The Falcons offense only got really going in the fourth quarter as the Patriots are back to playing physical defense, but will now be without Vince Wilfork. The Bengals lost a bad game to the Browns away from home and are probably seething for that reason. I know the Bengals are very talented but Andy Dalton would have to beat Tom Brady on this night and I don’t see it.

Seahawks @ Colts – MONEY LINE: Seahawks — SPREAD: Seahawks (-3.0)

The Seahawks pulled off a miraculous comeback thanks to Matt Schaub and Richard Sherman, who play on two different teams. The Colts whooped the Jaguars, to put it nicely. People keep saying the Colts defense is underrated and we will see that get tested this week. We will also see how the Colts offense can hold up as the Seahawks get some of their premiere defenders back.

Lions @ Packers – MONEY LINE: Packers — SPREAD: Packers (-6.5)

The Lions took it to the Bears last week. The Packers were off and Lacy is coming back from his concussion. Expect a lot of points in this one. Rodgers will be on the money this week.

Saints @ Bears – MONEY LINE: Saints — SPREAD: Saints (E)

The Saints had their way with the Dolphins on Monday Night. Drew Brees is having fun this year and Rob Ryan has shocked the world by turning this defense around completely. The Bears almost had a last minute comeback against the Lions last week but came up short. Jay Cutler finally main some mistakes this year and it cost the Bears.

Eagles @ Giants – MONEY LINE: Giants — SPREAD: Eagles (+3.0)

I don’t want to talk about this game … but I have to. The Eagles offense was outdone completely by the Peyton Manning show. The Eagles question is their defense if the offense can’t score. The Giants are a mess and the season may be in the tubes already after four weeks if it wasn’t for their weak division. This team needs a run game and needs to keep Eli upright.

Panthers @ Cardinals – MONEY LINE: Panthers — SPREAD: Panthers (-2.0)

The Panthers are coming off their bye. The front seven is simply loaded and Jon Beason is getting healthy. The Cardinals beat a beaten Bucs team that has switched quarterbacks and may switch coaches soon. I don’t really like this pick with the Cardinals at home.

Chargers @ Raiders – MONEY LINE: Raiders — SPREAD: Raiders (+5.5)

The Chargers pulled off an upset at home beating the Cowboys. Philip Rivers looked decent again. The defense looked solid, but now Dwight Freeney is done for the year. Terrelle Pryor who has been surprisingly better than average this year will draw the start in a game that was moved to 11:35 ET from 4:35 thanks tot he Oakland A’s playoff game. I am going ballsy on this pick.

Broncos @ Cowboys – MONEY LINE: Broncos — SPREAD: Broncos (-6.0)

The massacres continue. Peyton Manning is toying with the league as he has yet to throw an interception. The Cowboys looked bad again against the Chargers last week. The ‘Boys have demoted Morris Claiborne and their defense does not look good, so their offense will have to keep up with Peyton & Co. against a stout Broncos’ defense.

Texans @ 49ers – MONEY LINE: 49ers — SPREAD: Texans (+7.0)

The Texans lost a heart-wrencher as Matt Schaub threw away their sure-fire 3-1 record to Richard Sherman. Arian Foster seems to be rounding back into form. The 49ers returned to beating up teams as they took it to the Rams last Thursday night. I like the 49ers because of the extra rest, but it should be close with the Texans’ defense knowing how to shut quarterbacks down.

MONDAY

Jets @ Falcons – MONEY LINE: Falcons — SPREAD: Falcons (-9.0)

The Jets looked horrible against the Titans. They have no hope this week as they will be without Stephen Hill and Santonio Holmes. The Falcons almost pulled off a comeback against the Patriots. The banged-up defense will be facing a banged-up offense. I expect a blowout in Atlanta.

5 Things We Learned: The Seattle Screwjob Edition

1) If players can be flagged for throwing the ball at fellow players, then coaches should be reprimanded for throwing the game. Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz, you should be ashamed of yourself. Schwartz took full blame for the loss after the game (which he should), but that doesn’t change the fact that it was arguably one of the dumbest play-calls on fourth down since Belichick went for it deep in his own territory versus the Colts.

“I was getting ready to call timeout,” said Schwartz after the game, who said the play was an attempt to draw the Titans offside. Jim, we are still waiting for you to call that timeout. Quarterback Shaun Hill telegraphed that QB Sneak the moment he broke the huddle.

It was fourth-and-1. All Schwartz had to do was send Jason Hanson, who was 4/4 on the day, out for the 24-yard field goal, thus displaying trust in his defense to get one more stop. Sounds too easy right?! It’s a move like that which makes a player on the defense start to question the coach’s play-calling on the offensive side of the ball.

Then there is Miami Dolphins first-year head coach Joe Philbin. Joe, is there any conclusive evidence to suggest that icing the kicker actually works? Because if there is, I am dying to get my hands on that data. It’s bad enough coach Philbin believes if a coach calls for time the moment before the place-holder asks for the ball to be snapped, the kicker will miss the ensuing field goal. What makes this even more of a face-palm moment is the Dolphins were able to successfully block the kick!

Coach Philbin, I get it. You’re a superstitious individual. I am too. When the Giants were getting steam-rolled in the first half of their week 2 game vs Tampa Bay, I found myself scratching my head a lot. Then, at half time, my friend’s sister texted me and implored that the four of us switch seats for the second half. Nothing else seemed to be working at the time, so we did switch. And what do you know, the Giants came roaring back to win on the shoulders of a career-day from quarterback Eli Manning.

Did I actually believe I had any impact on the Giants performance in the second half? In the moment, of course I did, but in reality the answer is no. Did Philbin really believe his timeout call was going to ice Nick Folk? As Timbaland and Nelly Furtado would say, “Nope. Didn’t think so.”

2) Panic should ensue in New Orleans right about…NOW!

You’re the New Orleans Saints and you’re 0-2 going into week 3. You’re down on yourselves for the disappointing start to the season (as you should be.) But then the football gods hear your sorrows, and they give you the gift of the Kansas City Chiefs at home. What more could you ask for?! To the credit of the Saints, it has taken monster performances from their 3 previous opponents to keep them winless:

-Robert Griffin, III threw for 320 yards and 2 scores, with the addition of 42 rushing yards on the side for good measure.

-Cam Newton’s Carolina Panthers, as a team, rushed for 219 total yards on 41 carries.

-Jamaal Charles gutted the Saints defense for 233 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Needless to say, to beat the Saints, a team needs to have at least one player with a breakout game. They’re not getting blown out. The Saints simply aren’t closing out games, as this past Sunday’s overtime performance displayed. Blame the lack of coach Sean Payton’s missing presence on the sidelines all you want, but the reality is the Saints look flat, and even more so, beatable. If anything, the absence of Payton should inspire them and bring out more passion in their game, and yet, the opposite is occurring. More often than not, when something/someone is taken from you, you will do whatever it takes to retrieve it. Maybe the Saints don’t want it bad enough.

Now, the Saints have to travel up north to take on the very pissed off Green Bay Packers. This game may very well determine if the Saints can make one final push to turn their season around, or if they should start scouting for their top 10 pick in next season’s NFL draft. According to nfl.com, since 1990, only 5 NFL teams have started the season 0-3 and still made the playoffs. With the depth that is in the NFC this season, the Saints would need to play near perfect football, and need a lot of teams to fall off immediately.

3) It is time to cut ties with Chris Johnson on your fantasy team. I take this learned lesson especially personal because I was one of those fantasy players who felt Chris Johnson’s holdout two season’s ago would not stop him from being a 1500-yard rusher in 2011, at the minimum. Boy was I wrong. Fast forward to this past August and there I was, like many of you, sitting there with a second round pick and thinking, “I have to take him here.” Now together, we are all face-palming the decision to have drafted him at all.

Through three games, Chris Johnson is averaging a mere 1.4 yards per carry. Per espn.com and the Elias Sports Bureau, among those who have the minimum 6.25 per game to qualify, Johnson ranks dead last at number 51. As I have stated in previous weeks, this is the year of the backup running back, and there are plenty of players out there who can amass the measly eight fantasy points he has put up thus far. Drop him now, while there are still valuable players on the waiver wire, because he is done.

4) Goodell Logic. I certainly can’t take credit for the name of this (shout-out to WFAN’s Evan Roberts), but I definitely subscribe to this theory that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell approves moves that make you scratch your head. In this case, the weekly Thursday night football game, which every team plays in at some point during the regular season.

Goodell Logic allowed the Baltimore Ravens to play in the prime-time game on Sunday night, only to have them play once again this Thursday evening vs the Cleveland Browns. That makes no sense whatsoever. Regardless of who they are playing, teams should not have to play a football game on 3 days rest. Nothing good can come of that, except the NFL making more money by having people tune into its network channel every Thursday.

Sadly, nothing will be brought to the table to end this until players start to get injured because of these short turn-around weeks. Be on the lookout though, because Goodell Logic is bound to punish your favorite team at some point this season.

5) The Sunday night game featuring the Ravens and Patriots may have been the worst officiated game this season…until we all witnessed the screwjob that was Seattle vs. Green Bay.

No need to rehash what has already been beaten into the ground over the last 48 hours. The officiating of those two nationally televised games was abysmal! The final play should not have been ruled a touchdown at all. It was clear as day (apparently not if you were on the field and wearing stripes it wasn’t) that Golden Tate did not have possession, simultaneous possession, anything, and yet the refs still ruled in favor of the Seahawks.
I really want to believe professional sports are never rigged, Tim Donaghy aside, but then officials blow calls like that and it makes me wonder if Roger Goodell runs the NFL, or if Vince McMahon and the writers at WWE are the ones calling the shots. The ending to the football game delivered from a ratings perspective, something Vince McMahon has seen the WWE excel at. Fact is, when the conclusion of Monday Night Raw seems less fixed than the outcome of a professional football, we as a fan base, and as a culture, have failed ourselves.

#BookIt

-The New York Jets are done. You know the rest of your season is bleak when one of the backup running backs is being converted into cornerback.

-Michael Vick will be the starting quarterback in Philly as long as he healthy. Head coach Andy Reid wasn’t fooling anyone when he told reporters that Vick was their quarterback for now. What are his other options?

-The blown call in Monday night’s game changed the landscape of the NFC playoff picture. Just wait.

-If the Saints lose on Sunday, they are not making the playoffs. If the Saints win on Sunday, they are not making the playoffs.

-Rob Gronkowski will not be as effective as last season until: A) Aaron Hernandez returns B) Josh McDaniels actually figures out what he is doing with that offense…whichever happens first.

In Week 3, McKayla is certainly not impressed with the Green Bay Packers. This is truly meant for guard T.J. Lang and cornerback M.D. Jennings. Had the two of you done your jobs just a tiny bit better, your team would not have been on the wrong side of a horrendous call.

Mr. Lang, had your offensive line had a pulse in the first half, the game would not have had to come down to the final Hail Mary. Mr. Jennings, all you had to do was swat the football down, up, to the left; any direction your heart so desired. That is football 101. Instead you chose to go for your individual defensive player fantasy points and be a hero to your own team. McKayla is not impressed, and neither is anyone that witnessed you selfishly catch the ball on that last play.
